Nepal Rastra Bank Not Selling Gold Asharfi This Tihar, Silver Medallion Coins Available for Sale

Nepal Rastra Bank has announced that it will not be selling gold Asharfi coins for this year’s Tihar festival. However, silver medallion coins are available for sale.

Buying and worshipping gold and silver during Dhanteras and Laxmi Puja is a long-standing and significant tradition in Nepali culture. In line with this tradition, the Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank has been selling gold Asharfi and silver medallion coins every year before Tihar.

This year, however, the central bank has decided not to sell gold Asharfi coins, according to Assistant Spokesperson Suman Nyaupane. He stated that four types of silver medallion coins are currently available — featuring images of Laxmi, Ganesh, Gajalaxmi, and Cow.

Each of these coins weighs 10 grams and is priced at Rs. 3,000 per piece. Nyaupane also clarified that no other silver coins of different weights are being sold this year.

Each individual is allowed to purchase only one coin. To buy the coin, customers must present a photocopy of their citizenship certificate or any other valid identification document that includes their citizenship number.
